Jorun Marie Kvernberg and Kristina Farstad Bjørdal have developed a distinctive concept by merging seemingly different genres—folk music and contemporary music. Both come from backgrounds in folk music and classical/contemporary music, bringing broad musical expertise. Drawing from one genre and blending elements into the other adds significant value for the musicians. Both are charismatic, virtuoso performers with extensive experience.

For twenty-five years, Jorun Marie Kvernberg has worked full-time as a folk musician, specialising in local traditions from Møre and Romsdal, playing fiddle, harding fiddle, and singing. In recent years, she has also established herself as a composer with a fresh voice, recognised by both the art music and folk music communities, and has received several awards and commissions.

Kristina Farstad Bjørdal studied classical accordion, notably with the renowned Geir Draugsvoll in Copenhagen. She has a remarkable range, performing contemporary music and playing accordion in various folk ensembles.

Both musicians share a passion for both genres and are now exploring the boundaries between them. The concert programme will feature traditional Norwegian dancing tunes alongside newly composed contemporary works by Kvernberg, some of which blend elements from both styles. It is fascinating to see the break down of barriers between these worlds, especially within the Norwegian music scene. They will also include a tango by Piazzolla to complete the programme.
